Having a baby usually goes well but sometimes things can go wrong.
Every day around 15 babies in the UK sadly die, either before they’re born, during birth, or after they’ve been born. The UK also has a high rate of mums dying during pregnancy or within the first 12 months of giving birth compared to other high income countries.
Thankfully, though, there are lots of things that mums-to-be can do to give themselves a better chance of a safe birth and a healthy baby. That is what the Our Chance campaign is all about.
We’ve created short films and personal stories – told by women, for women – that give advice about what to look out for when you’re pregnant and show you how you can get the help you need to protect your life and the life of your baby.
Together we can stop a lot of problems before they start. Our Films Get Support
The Our Chance campaign has been developed by charities Best Beginnings and Sands. It’s supported by The Department of Health and NHS England, in partnership with numerous other organisations, to give mothers and babies a better chance of safer pregnancy and birth.
The Government recently announced its ambition to halve the number of babies and mums-to-be who die by 2030 and this campaign has been designed to help meet this aim.
